Privacy policy

No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.

Effective date: 30 October 2026

Zaad ("the app") is designed and developed by Muhammad Mujtaba. This page explains what Zaad does with your information.

In short

  • No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no crash-reporting SDKs.
  • Your settings, location and history are kept on your phone.
  • A few features need the internet. Each one sends only what it needs, and nothing that identifies you:
    • looking up a scanned barcode;
    • downloading the mosque list for your country;
    • showing the map;
    • optional online mosque search in Pakistan.

What stays on your phone

Zaad saves these with your phone's own app storage. They never leave the phone, and uninstalling the app deletes them:

  • the city or location you chose, and your recent cities;
  • prayer settings (method, Asr, adjustments, Hijri date adjustment);
  • notification and adhan choices;
  • theme, reading and display preferences;
  • Quran last-read position, bookmarks and page colour;
  • dua favourites, tasbih counts;
  • recent scans and a short-lived cache of product information;
  • whether you have Zaad Plus.

Prayer-time alerts are scheduled on the phone itself. No server sends them.

Location

Zaad uses your location to work out prayer times, the Qibla direction and the mosques near you. You can instead pick a city by hand and never share your location.

  • The location is used on the phone. Zaad does not send your location to the developer.
  • Mosque list. Zaad downloads one file for your country (for example "GB" or "PK") from usezaad.com. The request names the country, not your position. Your phone then searches the file itself.
  • Online mosque search (Pakistan only, off by default). Mapped mosque data in Pakistan is incomplete, so you can turn on online search. When it is on, Zaad sends an approximate location (rounded to about 100 m) to Zaad's search service at usezaad.com, which asks Google Places for mosques nearby and returns them.
    • The service does not store your location. Its logs keep only a rounded position (about 1 km) for troubleshooting.
    • To stop abuse it counts requests per network address. It stores only a one-way hash of the address that changes every day, never the address itself.
    • Google receives the search from Zaad's server, not from your phone.
    • Results are kept in memory for a few minutes and never saved to disk.
    • You can turn online search off at any time in Settings.
  • Map. Showing the map downloads map images for the area on screen from the map provider. Like any website, the provider sees your network address and which area is being viewed.
  • Directions. "Directions" opens Apple Maps or Google Maps with the mosque's location. What happens next is covered by that app's own privacy policy.

Camera and the ingredients scanner

  • The camera is used only while the scanner is open, to read a product's barcode or, in photo mode, the ingredients label.
  • Photos are processed on your phone and are not uploaded or saved. Text recognition runs on the device.
  • Barcode lookup. Zaad sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), a free, open database of food products, to fetch the product's ingredients.
  • Report a mistake opens your email app with a pre-filled message. You choose whether to send it.

The scanner shows what an ingredients list contains. It does not say whether a product is halal. Always check the label and the manufacturer.

Purchases (Zaad Plus)

Zaad Plus is a one-time purchase handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play. Zaad never sees your payment details. The store tells the app only whether Plus has been bought, so it can be unlocked and restored.

Sensors

The compass and motion sensors draw the Qibla needle. The readings stay on the phone and are not stored.

Links in the app open in your browser or the relevant app, for example:

  • the developer's website;
  • data credits;
  • the OpenStreetMap editor for adding a missing mosque.

What Zaad does not collect

  • No name, email, phone number or account.
  • No advertising identifiers and no tracking across apps or websites.
  • No analytics, usage telemetry or crash reports.
  • No contacts, photos library, microphone or files.

Children

Zaad is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date, and important changes will be mentioned in the release notes.

This website

The policy above is for the Zaad app. This section covers usezaad.com.

  • No cookies, no analytics, no trackers. The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts, so there is no cookie banner.
  • Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web server, it receives your network address and the pages you request, and keeps short-lived logs to run the service.
  • Prayer times, Qibla and calendar pages do their calculations in your browser. If you tap “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission and the position is used on the page only. It is never sent to us or anyone else.
  • Your chosen city is remembered in your browser’s local storage, so the page opens on it next time. It never leaves your device, and clearing the site’s data removes it.
  • The mosques map loads the free MapLibre map library from the jsDelivr CDN and map images from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). Those services see your network address and which map area is shown, as any website would. The mosque list itself comes from this site.
  • Links to the App Store, Google Play and other sites open those sites, whose own policies apply.
